Man, Teen Charged For Fatal Shooting Of Long Island Man

A 31-year-old man and a juvenile have been arrested for the death of a Long Island man earlier this month.

Diego Avila-Huicab, age 31, of Robbins, North Carolina, and a 16-year-old boy, of Sanford, North Carolina were arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 27, for the Tuesday, Jan. 21 murder of Ricardo Cardona, 40, of Hempstead, said the Nassau County Police.

According to detectives, Cardona was found dead after Hempstead police responded to a Shot Spotter call that occurred in the vicinity of Vermont Avenue and Dakota Place. 

Upon arrival, Hempstead Police found Cardona lying on the ground in front of 62 Vermont Avenue with a gunshot wound to his head. 

 Both defendants were charged with murder and will be arraigned in Mineola on Thursday, Jan. 28.
